Central Park Skiers has joined forces with the renowned Chamonix-based guide company, Yellow Snow Guides, to create a cutting-edge backpack tailored for technical alpine touring and professional use.
This collaboration aims to merge the extensive experience of both Central Park Skiers and Yellow Snow Guides to develop a product that meets the demanding needs of alpine guides and advanced backcountry skiers.
Jarmo ”Jobo” Metsäkoivu, the head of Yellow Snow Guides and a certified IMFGA mountain guide, brings a wealth of experience in free skiing and steep skiing. He has been providing invaluable insights into the specific needs and situations he faces when guiding groups and individuals in the high alpine. Together, we’ve worked on a new backpack model designed for alpine ski touring and technical routes.
Our current backpacks, the Adapt-Alpine 25 for backcountry skiing and the Adapt-Alpine 35 for technical ski touring, are crafted with adaptability in mind, offering convenience and features for various use-cases. However, the upcoming ”Guide Backpack” is focused on providing support for mountain professionals like Jobo and all skiers and climbers with similar needs.
I’m very excited about this project and our new connection to the Chamonix mountain community. Chamonix holds a special place in my heart. I spent a winter there right after high school and before mandatory military service—a journey from absolute freedom to absolute obedience. I’ve returned a few times since, and I’m thrilled that my former colleague and Jobo’s wife, Pinja Metsäkoivu, suggested this collaboration.
For now, I’ve got some other backpacks to work on, but I’ll get back to this project soon. Stay tuned!
